Bio for George Gordon

George was born April 11, 1951 in Ottawa Ontario. He is married to Shirley his wife and life partner for 37 years. They have one son, Darren, who lives and works in Vancouver.

George spent almost 40 years in radio broadcasting, including 10 in Vancouver at News1130, first as the station's Executive Editor and the last six as the morning news anchor. He played a pivotal role in developing the station into the Lower Mainland's most listened to radio news source.

Prior to that George was program director at 570 News in Kitchener Ontario, a station he helped launch for Rogers Communications. He has also worked in London Ontario, Detroit, Winnipeg and Toronto.

He has covered everything from the tobacco farming industry in Southwestern Ontario, the flooding along the Red River outside Winnipeg, Legislative sessions in Manitoba, and Ontario, a Royal Tour by the late Princess Margaret and her then husband Lord Snowdon to Brandon. (Ask George how angry a Princess can get when her husband breaks Royal protocol). In Detroit he covered the police beat until the Press Club began wondering if reporters should arm themselves with guns because of the street violence. In Toronto, he climbed a fire escape outside a hotel where the Israeli Defense Minister was staying, in hopes of getting an interview. No interview, but he can tell you the exact circumference of the barrel of a secret service Uzi automatic.

George's news coverage and collaborations with other journalists have been honored with awards from the Radio and Television News Directors' Association, The Canadian Association of Broadcasters, The Governor General, and the New York Festivals, just to name a few.

One of his great joys has been helping young radio journalists develop their writing and reporting skills.

This summer George decided to move on from radio and take his passion for story telling to a new level.

He has launched his own business to help individuals and organizations deal with the media as they seek recognition for their story.
